Boost Your Respiratory Tract And Get Ready To Fight The Flu

Boost Your Respiratory Tract And Get Ready To Fight The Flu
June 1, 2019Dr.Vandana VermaDietFitness ConsultingMedical Articles

As the pollution and the deteriorating air is taking a toll on our lungs what is needed in these times are these 5 superfoods. Include them in your diet today.

INCREASE THE VIT  C IN YOUR DIET

Fruits and vegetables supply rich amounts of antioxidants — nutrients that support your immune system’s ability to protect your body from infections, disease and toxins associated with cancer.  An antioxidant-rich diet for all people with chronic conditions, such as asthma is highly reccomended.  These are  prevalent in red bell peppers, citrus fruits and juices, papaya, kiwifruit, leafy greens, cabbage and Brussels sprouts, so don’t forget to  incorporate a variety of colorful, whole fruits and vegetables, which tend to provide the greatest antioxidant benefits, into your meals and snacks regularly.

WARM FLUIDS

As the season is also chafing and the winter sets in its time for some herbal teas, broth, soups and warm water as they promote hydration and help your body flush toxins away through urine. Chicken soup provides a valuable dietary remedy for colds, mucus and sore throats linked with respiratory conditions.  Additional protein-rich soup additions include beans, lentils. Incorporating vegetables into soups provides additional antioxidant benefits. Opt for broth-based soups most often, since creamy soups may interfere with mucus and congestion.

GARLIC AND GINGER

these pungent foods are great for heart and lungs  too. They reduce inflammation , lowers cholesterol and also  fights inflammation. They also promote elimination of pollutants from the lungs.

TURMERIC

Is always known for its antiseptic properties and contains curcumin a compound that encourages the self destruction of cancer cells.

TULSI

Tulsi being my favourite in the flu season to fight the infection and increase my immunity.

The anti flu property of Tulsi has been proven to improve the body’s overall defence mechanism including ability to fight viral diseases.  Apart from acting as a preventive medicine in case of swine flu, tulsi can help the patient recover faster and also helps in recovering faster in patients who have contracted the flu. You can take fresh leaves which is the best form or add in your tea as well.Disclaimer: The opinions expressed in this post are the personal views of the author.
